Recycling Heritage and Historic Buildings

CDS Building Movers has been involved in preserving many heritage buildings. Our most ambitious project to date was the recycling of five heritage houses to permit the construction of the new Stauffer Library at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The successful completion of this project resulted in widespread recognition within the structural moving industry.

In March 1995, CDS Building Movers successfully relocated the Barclay Building, a turn-of-the-century structure in the unique factory town of "Walkerville," now a part of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Hiram Walker Distilleries had applied to demolish the building, which had been built as the Walkerville Town Hall. The 750 ton, three-story structure was of triple brick construction on a stone rubble foundation. It is presently being restored and recycled as an art museum

CDS Building Movers has saved numerous buildings of historical significance:

  • St. Mary's Rectory in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada,
  • A 150-year old building in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada,
  • A turn-of-the-century false front Supertest service station recycled as a local museum, and
  • Many older log buildings throughout our trading territory

CDS Building Movers will determine the feasibility of preserving and relocating heritage buildings. We will conduct studies and make presentations to committees, architects, engineers, and local authorities as required.

Our past experience and performance enable us to counsel on building preservation.
